History
Tye Cemetery is 116 years old. It has two of the oldest veteran graves in Taylor county. The land for the Tye Cemetery was donated by the Thomas and Askins families more than 100 years ago. It was donated by them for the citizens of Tye, Texas, so that they could bury their loved ones close to them. The cemetery has always been maintained by donations and volunteers throughout its history. It is NOT owned and/or operated by the City of Tye, but is an independent organization operated by a board of directors. The board of directors are volunteers who are voted into office by the citizens of Tye. We are a non-profit organization and are currently waiting on our 501(c)13 approval from the State.
We have some families that have six or seven generations buried in our cemetery. Some of the oldest names would be Thomas, Askins, Abbott, Massey, Moore, Alexander, Rister, Hinds, Morgan, Martin and Boswell.
The Tye Cemetery Organization strives to maintain and keep the cemetery grounds clean so that our loved ones may rest in peace. This land was given as a gift to the citizens of Tye with the understanding that it would be kept maintained and held as a private, non-profit organization for the citizens of Tye. However, without the continued support and donations from our community, we will no longer be able to maintain the cemetery for our future generations to have and to hold. Without funding, the cemetery will have to be taken over by the City of Tye and this was not the original intent of the Thomas and Askin families.
We thank you for your support and appreciate any and all donations and volunteering of time.

To Jesus:
It isn't what you gave me
that makes me rise each day,
the early morning sunrise,
the gold and orange hues.
It isn't what you gave me,
that makes me live my life,
each moment to the fullest,
each moment just for you.
It isn't what you gave me,
that helps me understand,
what lies outside the box,
the box that never bends.
It isn't what you gave me,
that helps me lend my hand,
to those in need of comfort,
assistance or a friend.
It isn't what you gave me,
that makes me truly love,
each child, each elder, each cripple,
as if they were my blood.
It isn't what you gave me,
that will bring me home one day.
It isn't what you gave me,
It's what you took away.
